Ecology - biology - primatology

My research interest lies on the evolution of primate´s social and mating systems. I study the behavior and ecology of non-human primates, specifically of those living in multi-male, multi-female fission-fusion groups. My research -and dissertation work, aims to contribute to the understanding of our own evolutionary history by exploring the nature of the social and reproductive relationships of male-female chimpanzees and spider monkeys, and the precise mechanisms in which sociality can influence reproduction.

I currently study the unusually large Ngogo group of chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) in Kibale National Park, Uganda, and two groups of spider monkeys:  the white-bellied spider monkey (Ateles belzebuth) in The Yasuní National Park, Ecuador, and the critically endangered brown spider monkey (Ateles hybridus) in San Juan, Colombia.
